Global markets are now relentlessly marking Australia down for being just another resource-driven economy out-of-step with today’s digitally driven world. The short to medium-term outlook is gloomy but the far bigger worry is what is coming.Digital disruption is about to go into overdrive. This next wave, according to management consultants McKinsey & Company, will have the impact of 3000 Industrial Revolutions. There will be the 3D printing revolution, where everything from your next car to your next dinner will be “printed” at home. There will be the artificial intelligence revolution, in which whole service sectors will be wiped out. Then there’s the “internet of things” revolution, in which billions of devices become internet-linked to create information industries that evolve at internet-speed.
